Supreme Court Approves 100% Utility Allowance Increase

The Supreme Court Utility Allowance for employees has been increased by 100 percent after approval from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, marking a significant revision in staff benefits across multiple grades.

The decision was approved by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, according to official details. The revised allowance structure will come into effect from 1 July 2026 and will apply to employees across different pay scales within the institution.

The move aims to provide financial relief to staff facing rising utility costs, particularly electricity and gas expenses. The allowance is designed specifically to support monthly household utility bills of court employees.

Under the new structure, employees in Grades 1 to 6 will now receive Rs12,000 per month, up from Rs6,000. Staff in Grades 7 to 10 will get Rs16,000 instead of Rs8,000, while Grades 11 to 15 have been raised to Rs20,000 from Rs10,000.

For senior staff, the adjustment is even more significant. Grade 17 officers will receive Rs30,000, and Grade 18 officers will get Rs36,000. Grade 19 employees will now receive Rs42,000 per month.

At the higher administrative level, Grade 20 officers will receive Rs48,000, while Grade 21 and above will be entitled to Rs60,000 monthly. The revised structure reflects a uniform 100 percent increase across all categories.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan said the approved 2026–27 budget will cover the additional financial burden. Officials said the revision was made in line with inflationary pressure on household expenses.

The adjustment has drawn attention due to its scale, as it directly impacts a wide range of judicial employees. The update also highlights ongoing efforts within public institutions to revise compensation structures in response to economic conditions.
