Sindh Adds Hindu Religion Books for Students in Public Schools

The government of Sindh has approved the introduction of Hindu textbooks in Sindh for students studying in public schools, aiming to support inclusive education for minority communities.

Officials from the education department confirmed that the new textbooks will be introduced for students from Grades III to V starting in the 2026–27 academic year. The decision was taken during a recent meeting of the provincial curriculum authority.

The move focuses on providing Hindu students with religious education that reflects their own beliefs and traditions. Authorities say this step will help create a more balanced and respectful learning environment in schools.

The initiative was introduced under the direction of the provincial education leadership. The Sindh Textbook Board will manage the distribution of the books, ensuring they reach students across the province.

For the current academic year, a local welfare organization has been allowed to publish the textbooks. From the next academic cycle, the government plans to allocate official funds for their printing and wider distribution.

According to official data, more than 129,000 Hindu students are currently enrolled in public schools across Sindh. Many of these students come from districts like Tharparkar and Umerkot, where large Hindu communities live.

Education officials say the policy reflects a broader effort to ensure equal access to learning resources for all communities. They also stress that the curriculum changes are designed to promote respect for diversity within the education system.

Experts say this step may boost student engagement, as children learn better when education reflects their culture and religion. At the same time, the move highlights ongoing efforts in Pakistan to address minority rights through education reforms.
