An alleged A-Level paper leak has raised serious concerns in Karachi after a Mathematics exam paper reportedly surfaced online just hours before the test. The incident has triggered an official investigation and renewed debate about exam security in Pakistan.
According to early reports, the A-Level Mathematics paper appeared on social media platforms between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM on exam day. The content quickly spread across messaging groups, reaching a large number of students before the scheduled exam.
The exam is conducted under Cambridge International Education (CIE), which acknowledged the situation and confirmed that it is reviewing the reports. The body stated it takes such matters seriously and will share updates after completing its investigation into the June 2026 exam series.
This development comes at a time when exam integrity is already under scrutiny in Karachi. Local education authorities have faced repeated criticism over paper leaks in board examinations.
Meanwhile, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) reported a separate incident involving an attempt to share an Intermediate exam paper during an ongoing test. Officials said the situation was quickly controlled using digital monitoring tools.
BIEK Chairman Fakir Muhammad Lakho said authorities are using new systems to improve transparency. These include digital attendance tracking and real-time monitoring inside exam centres. Over 160,000 students are currently taking intermediate exams across Karachi.
Officials also identified several high-risk exam centres and deployed additional monitoring teams. Authorities traced the paper via watermark and recovered a student’s phone.
Education experts say such incidents can damage student trust and create unfair advantages. Many students and parents are now calling for stricter enforcement and better digital safeguards to prevent leaks.
The investigation into the A-Level paper leak is ongoing. It may impact future exam policies and security in Pakistan and other countries.
