Residents in multiple parts of Karachi will face temporary gas disruptions this weekend as Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) begins pipeline relocation work near Nipa Flyover.
The Karachi gas suspension will start from 10:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, and continue until 5:00 AM on Sunday, May 17. However, officials warned that the work could extend until 8:00 AM due to technical requirements.
According to SSGC, the project involves lowering major gas pipelines near the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route at Nipa. The work is being carried out at the request of Trans Karachi.
Several densely populated areas are expected to experience low gas pressure or complete suspension during the operation.
The affected areas include all blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Lines Area, PECHS, and Saddar. Major facilities such as Liaquat National Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, and Karachi Central Prison may also face disruptions.
SSGC advised residents to manage gas usage carefully during the shutdown period and remain prepared for temporary interruptions.
The latest announcement comes as Karachi continues to experience scheduled gas load management in different parts of the city. Regular shutdown timings currently affect consumers during morning, afternoon, and overnight hours.
The temporary suspension is expected to help authorities complete infrastructure work linked to the city’s transport development projects.
