The Karachi BRT Red Line project has received fresh momentum after Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed authorities to speed up construction work and ensure timely completion with improved coordination and quality control. The directive came during his detailed inspection of major infrastructure projects in Karachi on Sunday.
The chief minister, along with provincial ministers, the city mayor, and senior officials, visited key sections of the BRT corridor. He reviewed ongoing development from Peoples Chowrangi to Safoora Chowrangi and also inspected rehabilitation work near Pahalwan Goth. Officials briefed him on road repair, widening, and patchwork activities currently underway along University Road.
Focus on faster execution and public relief
During the visit, Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized that work on the Karachi BRT Red Line must continue in multiple shifts to meet deadlines. He stressed that delays would increase inconvenience for commuters already facing traffic disruptions.
The chief minister directed departments to maintain visible progress on-site and ensure transparency in execution. He also instructed officials to minimize public disruption by carrying out asphalt work during nighttime hours.
The BRT Red Line corridor remains one of the most important transport infrastructure projects in Karachi, aimed at improving urban mobility and reducing traffic pressure on key roads like University Road.
Waterlogging issue flagged at Nipa
One of the major concerns raised during the inspection was recurring water accumulation at Nipa. The chief minister expressed dissatisfaction over the repeated issue and ordered authorities to develop a permanent drainage solution instead of temporary fixes.
Officials informed him that multiple sections of the corridor are currently undergoing rehabilitation, including mixed-traffic lane repairs and road surface improvements. Work is being carried out in phases to maintain traffic flow while construction continues.
The flyover project is also under review
In addition to the BRT corridor, the chief minister also inspected the under-construction Azeempura flyover near Shah Faisal Colony. He directed the concerned departments to complete the project within 90 days, stressing the need for strict monitoring and efficient use of resources.
Authorities said teams are working on a fast-track schedule and extra manpower has been deployed to meet deadlines.
Government pushes for infrastructure acceleration
The latest visit reflects the provincial government’s renewed focus on accelerating Karachi’s infrastructure development, particularly transport-related projects. The Karachi BRT Red Line, part of the broader urban mobility plan, is expected to provide a modern and efficient public transport system once completed.
Officials said coordination has improved to avoid delays and ensure quality standards.
As work continues in multiple zones, authorities say the priority is to balance construction with minimal disruption for daily commuters.
