WB President Visits Pakistan to Strengthen Economic Partnerships

World Bank President Visits Pakistan to Strengthen Economic Partnerships, marking a significant step in boosting bilateral cooperation. During his visit, World Bank President Ajay Banga will meet with Pakistan’s senior officials, including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Finance Minister, to discuss economic reforms and development priorities. This visit reinforces the ongoing efforts to enhance Pakistan’s macroeconomic stability and public sector reforms.

President Banga’s discussions will focus on the 10-year Country Partnership Framework, under which the World Bank plans to provide Pakistan with $20 billion in funding by 2035. The agenda also includes reviewing the Pakistan Public Resources for Inclusive Development (PRID-MPA) program, a multi-year, multi-phase initiative supporting federal and provincial reforms. This program aims to improve domestic revenue mobilization, public spending quality, and service delivery across Pakistan.

The World Bank President will also examine progress in data-driven governance initiatives, digital tools for enhanced service delivery, and economic development projects in key sectors. Talks are expected to cover water disputes, ongoing fiscal reforms aligned with the IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF), and the National Fiscal Pact. Officials anticipate that this visit will accelerate implementation of reform initiatives, strengthen financial stability, and create a favorable environment for investment and growth.

During the four-day visit, from 1 February to 4 February 2026, Ajay Banga will meet multiple government departments in Islamabad and review ongoing and upcoming development projects. This engagement highlights Pakistan’s commitment to transparent governance, inclusive economic policies, and international collaboration.

By fostering strong partnerships with the World Bank, Pakistan aims to secure sustainable economic growth, improve public sector efficiency, and enhance citizens’ quality of life through innovative development programs.
