Government Unveils Muharram 2026 Power Supply Strategy

The Muharram 2026 Power Plan has been formally introduced by the Government of Pakistan to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the country during Muharram-ul-Haram, especially on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (Ashura). The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division issued detailed operational instructions to safeguard power continuity during religious gatherings and processions.

Officials said the plan focuses on preventing power disruptions in sensitive and high-traffic areas where Majalis and processions are expected.

The government has emphasized coordination between power authorities and local administrations to ensure smooth arrangements during one of the most significant religious periods in the Islamic calendar.

Directives Issued to Power Authorities

Under the Muharram 2026 Power Plan, all Distribution Companies (DISCOs), the National Power Control Centre (NPCC), and the National Grid Company (NGC) have been instructed to maintain continuous electricity supply throughout Muharram.

DISCOs will work closely with district administrations, law enforcement agencies, and management committees of Imambargahs and procession routes. Officials will compile detailed lists of Majalis venues and routes to ensure targeted monitoring and rapid response.

Each DISCO has been assigned a Chief Engineer (Operations) as the focal person responsible for monitoring real-time electricity supply. Additional focal persons will also be appointed at the circle level for coordination with local authorities.

Maintenance and Infrastructure Preparedness

The government has directed all power distribution companies to complete maintenance work on transformers, feeders, and related infrastructure by the 7th of Muharram.

This step is aimed at reducing the risk of technical faults during peak demand days. Special attention will be given to areas hosting large gatherings, where even short outages can create serious inconvenience for participants.

The National Grid Company has also been tasked with ensuring uninterrupted transmission of electricity to DISCOs based on allocations from NPCC.

Officials said this coordination is essential to maintain system stability during increased load conditions expected during Ashura.

Load Management and Contingency Planning

A key feature of the Muharram 2026 Power Plan is the preparation of detailed contingency strategies by all DISCOs. These plans will help manage feeder loads and reduce the risk of forced load shedding.

Authorities have been instructed to prioritize uninterrupted supply in areas with a history of frequent outages during peak demand periods.

The Power Division has also directed operational teams to maintain close monitoring of the national grid to quickly address any emergency situations.

Government’s Commitment During Muharram

The Ministry of Energy has reiterated its commitment to providing safe and reliable electricity throughout Muharram-ul-Haram.

Officials said the plan reflects the government’s broader goal of ensuring uninterrupted essential services during important religious and national occasions.

Authorities have urged all stakeholders, including power companies, transmission operators, and district administrations, to work in close coordination.

The government said public safety and uninterrupted services are top priorities during Ashura.

With the Muharram 2026 Power Plan, officials expect better coordination and fewer power disruptions during the holy month.
