The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has seized a massive consignment of expired food products during a raid in Lahore, in a major enforcement action against food safety violations. The incident has brought renewed attention to food safety standards in the city and raised public concern over the circulation of unsafe goods. According to officials, PFA enforcement teams carried out a targeted raid on a warehouse located on Raiwind Road in Lahore. During the inspection, authorities discovered large quantities of expired raw materials and processed food items stored for commercial use.
The total quantity of seized and discarded goods reached approximately 33,750 kilograms. Officials confirmed that the stock included expired juices, jams, tea powder, wafers, non-dairy cream, jelly, and other food ingredients. Some products also showed signs of tampered expiry dates, raising serious concerns about food fraud practices.
Warehouse raid exposes food safety violations
The operation was conducted by enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority under the direct supervision of senior officials. Authorities stated that two individuals were arrested during the raid, and an FIR was registered against those allegedly involved in food fraud activities.
Officials further revealed that the expired stock was being used in the production of multiple food products. These included juices, jams, and other packaged food items that are widely consumed in the local market. The seized items were later disposed of according to official safety procedures at a designated disposal site.
The Punjab Food Authority confirmed that strict action will continue against businesses involved in adulteration, mislabeling, or selling unsafe food products. The department emphasized that food safety laws will be enforced without exception across Punjab.
The raid highlights ongoing challenges in monitoring food supply chains and ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety regulations. Authorities have urged food businesses to maintain proper documentation and adhere to expiry guidelines to protect public health.
Officials said inspection drives will intensify in the coming weeks to prevent similar violations across the province.
