PMDC Announces New Rules for Foreign Medical Admissions

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has introduced updated rules for students planning to study medicine or dentistry abroad. The new PMDC foreign admissions policy outlines mandatory academic conditions and registration requirements for Pakistani students seeking overseas education.

According to the latest guidelines, students must secure at least 50 percent marks in the MDCAT or clear an equivalent foreign entry test before applying to international medical or dental institutions.

The council also made it compulsory for applicants to complete FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 60 percent marks.

PMDC advised students to carefully follow the eligibility criteria to avoid future issues related to degree recognition and registration in Pakistan.

The council further directed all students to complete online registration with PMDC before starting their studies abroad. Officials said this step is necessary for provisional registration and eligibility for the National Registration Examination after graduation.

The updated policy mainly targets students who plan to return to Pakistan and practice medicine or dentistry after completing foreign qualifications.

Education experts believe the revised rules will help improve transparency and ensure students meet minimum academic standards before enrolling in overseas institutions.

PMDC also encouraged applicants to use its official online portal for complete information regarding admission procedures, registration requirements, and future licensing rules.

The development comes as a large number of Pakistani students continue to seek medical education opportunities in countries including China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and other international destinations.
