The Pakistan-Australia ODIs series is set to take place in Pakistan this May, as Australia prepares for a three-match One-Day International tour ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Thursday that Australia will visit Pakistan for a short ODI series aimed at strengthening preparations for the global tournament. The series also highlights continued cricketing ties between the two nations, who have recently engaged in multiple white-ball contests.
Australia will arrive in Islamabad on May 23. The first ODI will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on May 30. The remaining two matches will take place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on June 2 and June 4. All matches will begin at 4:30 pm local time to manage the extreme summer heat.
The series is part of Australia’s build-up to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The defending champions are expected to use this tour to test their squad’s conditions in subcontinent environments.
Pakistan, on the other hand, will look to gain home advantage and assess its ODI squad against one of the strongest limited-overs sides in international cricket. The series is expected to draw strong attention from fans, especially in Rawalpindi and Lahore, where international cricket continues to return steadily.
ODI series schedule and venues
The PCB confirmed a simple three-match structure for the tour:
- 1st ODI: May 30 – Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
- 2nd ODI: June 2 – Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
- 3rd ODI: June 4 – Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
All matches will start in the late afternoon due to high temperatures expected in late May and early June.
This will be Australia’s first bilateral ODI series in Pakistan since their 2022 tour. Since then, both teams have played limited-overs cricket in different formats, including a recent T20 series earlier this year.
Australia also toured Pakistan for T20 matches earlier in the year, where Pakistan delivered a strong performance. That recent history adds more competitive interest to the upcoming ODI series.
Cricket analysts view the series as an important step in both teams’ preparation cycles. Pakistan will aim to build consistency in the ODI format, while Australia will focus on adapting to spin-friendly and hot conditions.
Large crowds are expected, especially in Lahore. The Pakistan-Australia ODI series will be an important test for both teams ahead of major tournaments.
