The government has restored motorway speed limits across Pakistan, allowing motorists to once again travel at previously permitted speeds on motorways and national highways. The decision applies to all categories of vehicles and takes effect immediately, according to traffic authorities.
Under the updated rules, cars and light vehicles can now travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h on motorways. Passenger buses and heavy transport vehicles are allowed to move at speeds of up to 110 km/h. The same restored limits also apply to national highways for all vehicle categories.
Officials said the move aims to bring consistency in traffic regulations and improve travel efficiency between major cities. The Motorway Police confirmed that enforcement has already begun across the country, and monitoring teams have been deployed to ensure compliance.
Authorities also stressed that road safety remains the top priority despite the relaxation of previous restrictions. Drivers have been urged to strictly follow lane discipline, wear seatbelts, and avoid reckless driving during high-speed travel.
The decision is expected to benefit daily commuters, transport operators, and long-route travelers who rely heavily on Pakistan’s motorway network. Reduced travel time between major cities may also improve logistics and freight movement.
Earlier, speed limits were reduced as part of temporary safety measures, but officials have now reverted to the earlier framework after review and consultation. The government is promoting ITS and electronic toll collection to improve highway operations.
With motorway speed limits restored, authorities now focus on safer and more efficient highway travel across Pakistan.
