The Karachi University Road Project has officially regained momentum as the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) takes charge of construction work, bringing renewed hope for commuters in one of the city’s busiest corridors. After facing long delays, the project has now restarted with active development on key sections of University Road in Karachi.
The development was confirmed after Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the site along with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab. During the visit, officials from FWO and other departments briefed the leadership on ongoing progress and the expected timeline for completion. Authorities expressed confidence that the long-stalled project will now move forward at a faster pace.
FWO takes over major construction work
According to official details, FWO has taken responsibility for the construction stretch from Islamia College to the Meteorological Department. Work has already resumed on the ground, with machinery and teams actively engaged in development activities.
The Sindh government and FWO have jointly agreed to complete the mixed traffic corridor and drainage system within 90 days. Officials said this timeline is critical to ensure early relief for daily commuters facing severe traffic congestion in the area.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab assured the chief minister that the deadline would be strictly followed. He also stated that regular progress updates will be shared to maintain transparency and public awareness.
Efforts to improve Karachi traffic flow
During the visit, the chief minister also inspected the Azeempura Flyover project, which is being developed alongside the University Road corridor improvement plan. Officials confirmed that this project is also expected to be completed within the same 90-day timeframe.
Once completed, the Karachi University Road Project will significantly ease traffic pressure on one of Karachi’s most critical arteries. The road connects several key residential, educational, and commercial areas, making it essential for daily commuting.
Authorities believe the renewed pace of construction will not only improve traffic flow but also enhance urban mobility and infrastructure reliability across the city.
