The Lahore Film City project has been officially announced by Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, marking a major step toward reviving Pakistan’s creative industry. The new facility will be developed inside Nawaz Sharif IT City in Lahore and aims to bring film, television, and digital production under one roof.
Officials describe the initiative as Pakistan’s first fully integrated media production hub. It will offer modern studios, advanced sound stages, and high-end post-production facilities. The goal is to reduce reliance on foreign services, especially for visual effects and editing work.
The project will also include dedicated spaces for animation, gaming, and digital media development. Planners say this reflects a shift toward emerging content industries, not just traditional filmmaking.
The master plan features purpose-built shooting locations, permanent sets, and a central lake designed for outdoor filming. A convention center is also part of the design, which could host international film festivals, award shows, and industry events.
In addition, authorities plan to establish a media trade center and a film and music school within the complex. These additions are expected to support talent development and provide professional training opportunities for young creators across Pakistan.
Government officials believe the Lahore Film City will generate thousands of jobs, both directly and indirectly. The project is also seen as a way to attract local and international investment into Pakistan’s entertainment sector.
Construction will take place in phases, with further details on timelines expected in the coming months. If completed as planned, the initiative could reshape the country’s media landscape and position Lahore as a regional hub for film and digital content production.
