The government has introduced new Lahore taxi driver rules aimed at improving passenger safety in ride-hailing services. The updated policy requires stricter background checks and closer monitoring of drivers working with online taxi platforms.
According to police officials, individuals with criminal records will no longer be allowed to register as drivers. Authorities say the move is part of a broader effort to enhance security and prevent misuse of ride-hailing services.
Mandatory Verification for All Drivers
Under the new system, every driver must obtain a valid character certificate before joining any online taxi platform. This certificate will confirm that the individual has no criminal background.
Police have also made it compulsory for ride-hailing companies to share complete driver data with law enforcement agencies. This data integration will allow authorities to quickly identify suspicious activity if needed.
Officials confirmed that new applicants will undergo full police verification before approval. At the same time, records of existing drivers are being reviewed to ensure compliance with the updated rules.
Strict Action for Non-Compliance
Lahore Police have directed all ride-hailing companies to fully implement the new policy. Authorities warned that companies failing to follow the rules may face strict action.
The initiative reflects growing concerns about passenger safety, especially in large cities where online taxi services are widely used.
Officials believe the new system will improve trust between passengers and drivers. They also say it will help create a safer environment for daily commuters who rely on these services.
