Apni Chat Apna Ghar has reached a major milestone as the Government of Punjab disbursed over Rs191 billion to support low-income families in building homes.
Officials confirmed that interest-free loans under Apni Chat Apna Ghar have been provided to more than 135,000 families across Punjab. The initiative aims to reduce housing shortages and improve living conditions for underserved communities.
Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said the programme has already delivered strong results. He noted that over 91,000 houses have been completed so far. Another 42,000 homes remain under construction and are expected to finish within the current financial year.
The Apni Chat Apna Ghar scheme focuses on providing interest-free loans to people who cannot afford traditional housing finance. Authorities say the demand has been high, with more than 1.17 million applications submitted for financial support.
During a recent meeting with housing officials, including the Director General of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency, the minister highlighted the programme’s transparency. He said loan recoveries have crossed Rs 10 billion, which reflects public trust in the system.
The housing initiative was launched following a broader plan announced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The government aims to construct 100,000 houses for low-income citizens under this policy.
Officials added that the plan includes building thousands of houses in each district. This approach ensures equal development and access to housing opportunities across the province.
Experts believe the Apni Chat Apna Ghar programme can boost the construction sector and create jobs. It also supports economic growth by increasing demand for building materials and services.
For many families, the scheme has turned the dream of owning a home into reality. Authorities say they will continue expanding the programme to reach more people in the coming months.
