PIA Chairman Arif Habib Discusses Employee Future and Workforce Plans, emphasizing the protection and development of the airline’s workforce. He highlighted that PIA employees’ future will depend on performance, while profitability and service quality remain top priorities.
Arif Habib, founder of the Arif Habib Group and leader of the Arif Habib Consortium, recently acquired a 75% stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) with an offer of Rs135 billion. The consortium has expressed interest in purchasing the remaining 25% shares, but no final decision has been made yet. Arif Habib clarified that the focus is on reviewing all aspects of operations during the 90 days before deciding on full ownership.
The chairman underlined PIA’s strategic advantages, including priority Hajj and Umrah flight services and a large base of overseas Pakistanis, estimated at 70–80 million, who frequently travel internationally. He stressed that encouraging Pakistanis to use PIA for international flights will support the airline’s profitability and revival measures.
To strengthen the national carrier, Arif Habib revealed plans for a comprehensive business plan and consultations with international advisors. These efforts aim to modernize operations, evaluate employee performance, and implement long-term airline management strategies. The focus will be on training, operational efficiency, and ensuring that workforce rights are safeguarded.
Arif Habib concluded that PIA’s success depends on both employee dedication and strategic management decisions. By balancing workforce protection with business objectives, the airline seeks to become profitable and reliable.
