A Karachi heatwave alert has prompted K-Electric (KE) to urge residents to take precautionary measures as temperatures continue to rise across the city. Authorities warn that the coming days could see extreme conditions, with apparent temperatures expected to cross 45°C.
The utility company advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, especially between 11 am and 4 pm, when heat intensity peaks. Health experts also recommend staying hydrated and wearing light, breathable clothing to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana said the company remains on high alert as electricity demand surges during the heatwave. He added that KE teams are ready to respond quickly to any faults and ensure a stable power supply across Karachi.
To manage the situation, KE has temporarily suspended preventive maintenance shutdowns. The company also indicated that it may pause economic load-shedding during extreme heat conditions to support residents facing high temperatures.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has already issued warnings about rising temperatures, while the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has urged citizens to follow safety guidelines strictly. Officials fear that prolonged exposure to heat could lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heatstroke, particularly among children and elderly people.
K-Electric also stressed the importance of community awareness. Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and those with medical conditions. Simple steps like using umbrellas, covering the head, and avoiding direct sunlight can help reduce health risks.
As Karachi faces another intense summer spell, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Officials advise citizens to follow alerts and take preventive measures seriously during the ongoing heatwave.
