The Rehmat Card Punjab program has been launched to provide direct financial support to widows and orphans across the province. The initiative, introduced by Maryam Nawaz Sharif, offers Rs 100,000 to eligible individuals under the provincial Zakat system.
The government has allocated Rs 5 billion for this scheme, aiming to ease financial pressure on the most vulnerable groups. The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen social welfare support in Punjab.
Eligible applicants must meet Zakat criteria under Islamic guidelines. Widows who are government employees, pension holders, or those who meet the Nisab threshold are not eligible for the program.
Applicants can register through the official mobile application designed for the scheme. Authorities have also set up a helpline (1077) to assist citizens with information and guidance.
The selection process relies on the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER), which verifies applicants based on financial status and district quotas. If an individual’s data is not available in the registry, verification will be completed through NADRA.
Once approved, beneficiaries will receive financial assistance through digital wallets, including JazzCash, ensuring secure and transparent payments.
Officials say the system aims to minimize delays and ensure funds reach deserving families quickly. The government expects the initiative to support thousands of households struggling with rising living costs.
