Pakistan Mobile Phone Imports Hit Rs 406 Billion in 9 Months

Pakistan’s Mobile Phone Imports surged to Rs 406.38 billion during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The increase highlights continued strong demand for smartphones across the country despite economic pressures.

The figures show a sharp rise of 29.15 percent compared to the same period last year. In the previous year, mobile phone imports stood at Rs 314.65 billion, reflecting a significant year-on-year jump in import spending.

Experts suggest that rising smartphone usage, expanding internet penetration, and demand for mid-range and budget devices are driving the upward trend in imports. The data also indicates that mobile phones remain one of the key imported consumer electronics in Pakistan.

During March 2026 alone, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth Rs 41.70 billion. This marks a 14.28 percent increase compared to March 2025, when imports were recorded at Rs 36.49 billion. However, on a month-on-month basis, imports slightly declined by 4.26 percent compared to February 2026.

Despite monthly fluctuations, the overall nine-month trend shows steady growth in Mobile Phone Imports, reflecting consistent consumer demand in both urban and semi-urban markets.

Analysts note that factors such as growing digital adoption, increased e-commerce activity, and rising use of mobile-based services have contributed to sustained import levels. At the same time, concerns over foreign exchange pressure continue to remain a key discussion point among policymakers.

The trend also raises questions about local smartphone assembly and manufacturing capacity, as Pakistan continues to rely heavily on imported mobile devices to meet domestic demand.

As the fiscal year progresses, industry observers will closely watch whether import growth stabilizes or continues its upward trajectory in the coming months.
