The minister also stated that this is the first government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take such a decision. He called it a “bold and necessary step” for long-term economic stability.

Officials say the facility had been under criticism for years due to rising electricity costs and financial strain on the power sector. Many analysts believed such benefits added pressure on the national grid and increased overall subsidies.
