The Punjab government has officially expanded its renewable energy initiative, the Punjab solar scheme, by extending the application deadline and increasing its budget to support more households across the province. The decision comes amid rising electricity costs and growing public demand for affordable energy solutions.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the extension, confirming that the registration deadline for the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme has now been pushed further, allowing more families to apply for the program. Officials said the scheme will continue to accept applications until December 2026.
The government has also increased the allocated budget for the program. This move aims to ensure that a larger number of low-income households can benefit from free solar systems, helping reduce dependence on expensive grid electricity.
The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to promote clean and renewable energy. It also reflects the government’s focus on easing financial pressure on families struggling with high electricity bills.
Deadline extended amid rising demand
Under the updated plan, the Punjab solar scheme will continue to provide solar energy systems to eligible domestic consumers who fall within low electricity usage categories. Households consuming between 0 and 200 units per month remain the primary target group for the program.
The scheme operates through a transparent selection process, where eligible applicants are chosen via balloting. This ensures fair distribution among deserving families across the province.
Eligibility includes domestic consumers with a sanctioned load of up to 2 KW. The program covers both lifeline and protected/unprotected consumers within the defined usage brackets.
To make registration easier, the government has provided multiple application methods. Citizens can register through the official online portal or via SMS by sending their CNIC and electricity bill reference number to 8800.
Officials say the extended deadline will give more time to families who were unable to apply earlier. They also expect higher participation due to increased awareness and ongoing electricity price concerns.
