Pakistan Railways has launched a new tourism-focused train service, marking a fresh step to improve travel and promote local tourism. The Safari Train Pakistan initiative aims to offer passengers a more comfortable and enjoyable journey while exploring scenic destinations.
The upgraded Safari Train was inaugurated in Rawalpindi by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi. He said the project reflects ongoing efforts to modernise the railway system and attract more travelers across the country.
The newly introduced train features air-conditioned coaches, better seating, and a family-friendly environment. Officials have designed it mainly for tourists, with short stopovers at key locations along the route. These stops allow passengers to explore nearby attractions instead of just passing through.
One of the highlights of the service is planned visits to scenic spots like Attock Khurd. Travelers can enjoy extended stays, along with food and recreational facilities. This approach aims to turn rail travel into a more complete travel experience rather than just transportation.
According to officials, the Safari Train also supports the government’s broader goal of boosting domestic tourism. By improving comfort and adding unique experiences, Pakistan Railways hopes to attract families, students, and tourists.
The minister also pointed out that passenger numbers have increased in recent months. This shows growing public trust in railway services. He added that ongoing reforms, including digitalisation and improved operations, are helping the department perform better.
In recent weeks, Pakistan Railways has reported strong financial growth. The department is now earning around Rs300 million daily, driven by both passenger and freight services. Officials say this progress will support future upgrades and expansion projects.
