KP Launches Fuel Subsidy Scheme for Commercial Vehicles

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a new fuel subsidy scheme for commercial vehicles to ease the burden of rising fuel prices. The move comes as transport operators have struggled with increased petrol and diesel costs in recent weeks.

Officials said the scheme will provide monthly financial support to various types of commercial vehicle owners. The goal is to reduce operating costs and stabilize fares for passengers across the province.

Under the plan, bus operators will receive up to Rs100,000 per month. Larger commercial vehicles will get Rs80,000, while truck owners will receive Rs70,000. Smaller transport services are also included. Minibus operators will get Rs40,000, and van owners will receive Rs35,000 each month.

The Transport Department confirmed that the application process will be fully digital. This step aims to improve transparency and make it easier for applicants to register and receive payments without delays.

The government introduced the fuel subsidy scheme after a sharp rise in petroleum prices linked to regional tensions. Authorities believe the initiative will help protect both transport businesses and commuters from sudden fare increases.

Transporters have welcomed the decision, calling it a timely relief. Many operators had warned of service cuts due to high fuel costs. With this support, they expect to continue operations without passing the full burden onto the public.

Experts say such targeted subsidies can help maintain economic stability in the short term. However, they also stress the need for long-term energy and transport reforms.

The provincial government has not yet announced how long the scheme will continue. More details are expected once the registration process begins.
