FBR Announces Offices Will Remain Open on Friday

FBR Announces Offices Will Remain Open on Friday Despite Nationwide Fuel-Saving Measures, confirming that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will operate normally despite ongoing government austerity measures. This decision ensures FBR offices open on Friday, Pakistan-wide, and remain fully functional to manage tax collection during the Eid shopping season. FBR’s operational status despite fuel restrictions allows the tax authority to meet Pakistan’s tax revenue targets for 2026 effectively.

The Cabinet Division recently directed government office closures and energy-saving policies to tackle the current fuel crisis. Most departments will reduce petrol usage by 50 percent and limit vehicle operations. However, the FBR will continue in-person operations to maintain efficiency and revenue collection. Work From Home (WFH) policies will not apply to FBR staff, ensuring uninterrupted Sales Tax collection and monitoring of public financial compliance.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that these steps are temporary and aimed at addressing Pakistan’s economic austerity plan while preserving critical revenue streams. Senior officials, including Grade 20 officers, will contribute to the public relief fund through salary deductions to support energy-saving and fiscal measures. Teleconferencing and online meetings are encouraged in other departments, but FBR offices open on Friday, Pakistan-wide, will continue face-to-face operations for maximum efficiency.

These measures highlight the government’s balance between national fuel-saving initiatives and sustaining essential services. FBR’s continued operation amid fuel restrictions demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to meeting tax revenue targets and ensuring the financial stability of public services. The authorities also warned hoarders and profiteers that strict actions will follow, reinforcing the government’s fuel conservation policy Pakistan-wide.
