Gul Plaza Traders to Get 1,200 Free Stalls in Karachi’s Red Zone

Gul Plaza Traders to Get 1,200 Free Stalls in Karachi’s Red Zone as part of a relief initiative by the Karachi Mayor. The stalls aim to support affected shopkeepers in Karachi after the Gul Plaza tragedy. Temporary stalls during Ramadan will help traders continue business during the peak shopping season.

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui, announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will coordinate the free stall allocation. The Polo Ground in Karachi, in the Red Zone, has been approved for the setup of 1,200 stalls. No fee stalls will ensure that small traders during Ramadan receive full support. The city administration’s relief efforts focus on easing the financial burden of fire-affected traders in Karachi.

The Gul Plaza fire incident on January 17 caused massive casualties and disrupted businesses. Investigations revealed blocked emergency exits, flammable materials, and delayed firefighting response. Despite the reconstruction of Gul Plaza not yet beginning, the Sindh government’s support and the PPP’s support for traders will provide immediate Ramadan business relief. KMC officials will implement a trader rehabilitation plan to ensure smooth coordination with the building management and affected traders.

This relief initiative also acknowledges Ramadan peak season traders who rely heavily on daily sales. Temporary business facilities at the Polo Ground Karachi will offer safe, structured, and accessible stalls. Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized solidarity with victims of the Gul Plaza incident and assured continuous monitoring of the free stall program.

The Karachi Mayor’s announcement ensures that Gul Plaza traders have the opportunity to resume income-generating activities during Ramadan. With 1,200 free stalls in the Red Zone, affected shopkeepers in Karachi can maintain business stability and prepare for future growth.
