President Asif Ali Zardari reiterates Pakistan’s Firm Support for Kashmiris, emphasizing the country’s unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political backing for the Kashmiri people. In his statement, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Kashmiris and their fundamental right to self-determination, guaranteed under UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.
Observing Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5, President Zardari highlighted Pakistanis’ unity with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their ongoing struggle for justice. He recalled that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto initiated the day 36 years ago, following the historic Kashmir uprising of 1989. This annual observance continues to underscore the importance of Kashmiris’ inalienable rights and freedoms.
President Zardari expressed deep concern over human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), including arbitrary detentions, house demolitions, media restrictions, and digital freedom suppression. He criticized India’s unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, and subsequent efforts to alter the demographic composition of the territory. The president also highlighted religious intimidation through mosque profiling and curbs on Islamic institutions.
Emphasizing regional peace and stability in South Asia, President Zardari urged the international community to actively intervene and ensure access for human rights observers. He stressed that lasting peace cannot be achieved without a free and impartial plebiscite for Kashmiris. The statement reinforced Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Kashmiris until they determine their future through legitimate and democratic means.
Kashmir Solidarity Day 2026 serves as a reminder of the enduring struggle of the Kashmiri people, Pakistan’s unwavering support, and the importance of global attention to human rights violations in the region.
