Major Gas Discovery by Mari Energies in Dera Bugti, Balochistan, has marked a significant milestone for Pakistan’s energy sector. The Tibri-1 well in the Kalchas South Block produced promising results, signaling strong potential for the domestic energy supply. Mari Energies Limited, alongside United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) and Dewan Petroleum (DPL), operates the Kalchas South Block. Tibri-1 was spudded on November 11, 2025, and drilled to a total depth of 7,170 feet. Initial tests of the Dunghan/Sui Main Limestone formation showed a flow rate of 11 MMSCFD at a 64/64″ choke, and 6.5 MMSCFD at a 32/64″ choke. The wellhead flowing pressure ranged from 561 psig to 1,161 psig, indicating strong production potential.
The area had remained dormant due to security challenges in Balochistan. But after Mari Energies acquired DPL’s working interest in 2023, exploratory drilling in Pakistan resumed with full force. The joint venture aims to expand the energy supply base and support national energy security. Investors and stakeholders noted this achievement through a Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) notice.
This gas discovery not only adds new reserves to the Dera Bugti gas field but also promotes local economic growth. The collaboration between Mari Energies, UEPL, and DPL highlights how partnerships can overcome challenges and deliver results in Pakistan’s energy sector. Further testing at Tibri-1 will determine long-term production capabilities.
