PTA Approves Nine Local VPN Providers as Over 30,000 Users

PTA Approves Nine Local VPN Providers as Over 30,000 Users Register has marked a major step in Pakistan’s internet regulation framework. The move supports legal VPN usage Pakistan-wide and improves digital trust. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that PTA Approves Nine Local VPN Providers as Over 30,000 users registered under its new licensing system.

The authority issued approvals under the Class License for Data Services. This decision allows licensed VPN operators to offer secure VPN services. PTA VPN licensing aims to balance privacy, security, and compliance needs. Officials said the step helps businesses and individuals access lawful internet-based services safely.

To simplify access, PTA launched a dedicated VPN Registration Portal. Users can complete VPN registration Pakistan-wide through an online process. Applicants submit CNIC details, company information, and VPN specifications. Freelancers in Pakistan can register by providing proof of active work. If needed, users may obtain fixed IP addresses from any Internet Service Provider (ISP).

PTA stated that the VPN approval process usually completes within 8 to 10 hours. More than 30,000 users already registered successfully. These include software houses, call centers, banks, and embassies. The system improves secure remote connectivity and supports remote work VPN access nationwide.

Alongside licensing, PTA introduced IP Whitelisting Regulations 2024. These rules apply to IPv4 and IPv6 addresses used for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. The policy targets grey telephony control and stronger cybersecurity compliance. Non-compliant requests face rejection to prevent misuse.

Experts believe this framework strengthens digital confidence. It also helps regulate VPN service providers in Pakistan responsibly. Clear VPN rules and regulations Pakistan-wide, may boost the IT sector’s growth. The initiative shows progress toward secure, lawful, and modern internet usage.
