Bilawal Bhutto pushes for Sales Tax Devolution Amid Sindh’s Governance Success, highlighting the province’s progress in healthcare, education, and infrastructure. The PPP chairman emphasized fiscal decentralization to boost provincial revenue, strengthen institutions, and enhance public service delivery. Bilawal Bhutto’s advocacy for sales tax devolution reflects Sindh’s commitment to people-centric governance and socio-economic development.

Since assuming office in 2008, Sindh has recorded remarkable improvements in healthcare, including the expansion of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) bed capacity from 1,100 to 2,200, with a target of 3,100 by 2028. The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) now operates 11 specialized hospitals, while SIUT has served over 35 million patients. The Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) has completed 1,362 liver transplants, and SMBBIT treats 175,000 trauma patients annually, demonstrating the province’s expanded public service delivery.

Education has also flourished, with public universities increasing from 10 to 30 and 18 new campuses across Sindh. Poverty alleviation programs through the Sindh Rural Support Organisation have lifted 1.4 million women via soft loans. Additionally, the province has implemented 750,000 climate-resilient homes out of 2.1 million planned, creating nearly one million jobs. Agricultural support contributed to a wheat harvest of 4.5 million tonnes, and the provincial road network now spans 57,000 km, reflecting robust infrastructure development.

Revenue collection has surged to Rs307 billion by 2024, outperforming federal growth. Bilawal Bhutto urged the devolution of sales tax on goods to provinces to enhance fiscal efficiency and strengthen Sindh’s autonomy. Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and other dignitaries attended the presentation, noting Sindh’s governance model and public trust as key examples of effective provincial leadership.

Sindh’s progress demonstrates how focused governance, fiscal decentralization, and investment in health, education, and infrastructure can drive sustained socio-economic development.
