SSGC Updates on Gas Shortfall Recovery During Winter Surge

SSGC Updates on Gas Shortfall Recovery During Winter Surge as households in Sindh and Balochistan face higher demand. The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) reported that an upstream technical issue caused a temporary gas shortfall of 30 million cubic feet per day, affecting domestic consumers. The company said the deficit will be recovered in the coming days, ensuring normal gas pressure levels for homes and industries.

The cold spell sharply increased household gas demand due to heavy use of space heaters and geysers, causing a winter gas consumption spike. To manage the surge, SSGC diverted 90 million cubic feet per day of reliquefied natural gas (LNG) into its distribution network. Emergency measures and a government-approved load plan prioritized households and temporarily reduced industrial gas use, including fertilizer plants.

Domestic consumers can expectan uninterrupted gas supply between 5 am and 10 pm, according to the company. SSGC also deployed teams to address low-pressure complaints across provincial networks. Officials emphasized that the emergency measures aim to stabilize provincial gas supply while the technical issue is resolved.

The company confirmed that regular industrial closures were enforced only to protect household supplies. Experts say the temporary shortfall is common during cold waves in Sindh and Balochistan due to sudden temperature drops. SSGC reassures consumers that gas pressure and availability will return to normal soon.

Residents are advised to continue using gas efficiently and report low-pressure issues promptly. SSGC’s proactive steps demonstrate a commitment to safe and reliable service during winter.
