Karachi Faces Scheduled Water Cuts: Key Neighborhoods to Experience Reduced Supply

Karachi Faces Scheduled Water Cuts: Key Neighborhoods to Experience Reduced Supply as the city prepares for a planned 12-hour KE shutdown at the Dhabeji substation and grid station. According to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), this power shutdown in Karachi will temporarily disrupt water pumping operations, leading to lower supply across multiple localities.

K-Electric will conduct an 8 AM–8 PM winter maintenance shutdown to strengthen energy infrastructure and ensure reliable high-voltage transmission. KE spokesperson Imran Rana confirmed that the preventative maintenance shutdown is essential to ensure safer and more reliable power delivery. However, the resulting Karachi water shortage will impact thousands of households.

Several major neighborhoods are expected to experience partial water supply suspension, including Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Chanesar Town, Jinnah Town, North Nazimabad, and Gulberg Town. Additional grid-linked areas, including Clifton and Surjani, may face temporary electricity interruptions, further affecting water supply conditions across Karachi.

KWSB estimates that the city’s supply will drop by nearly 200 million gallons, leaving only 450 million gallons available for distribution. Authorities advise residents to follow water management guidelines, store water beforehand, and reduce consumption throughout the maintenance window. KE recommends monitoring updates through the KE Live App, KE website, WhatsApp self-service portal, and call center 118.
