Sindh authorities have imposed a Muharram speaker ban on 135 individuals across the province ahead of Muharram 2026. The move comes as part of heightened security measures aimed at preventing sectarian tensions during the holy month.
According to official notifications issued by the Sindh Home Department, the decision was taken on recommendations from senior police officials. The authorities said the step is necessary to maintain peace and prevent any inflammatory or provocative speech during religious gatherings.
The ban will remain in effect for 60 days and will apply across Sindh. Officials confirmed that individuals included in the list will not be allowed to leave the limits of their respective police station jurisdictions during this period. The restriction also covers public speeches as well as activity on social media and electronic platforms.
Security officials have directed the banned speakers to submit surety bonds of good behavior before their respective District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs). Authorities said they will take action under the Sindh Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance against any violation of the order.
Authorities have also shared the list with the Inspector General of Police, commissioners, and all district SSPs to ensure strict enforcement. The order has come into immediate effect and will remain active throughout Muharram 2026.
Officials said the Muharram speaker ban aims to stop the spread of sectarian hatred and ensure peaceful observance of religious processions and gatherings. The government said maintaining law and order during Muharram is a top priority due to large gatherings and security concerns.
Those affected by the restriction have the right to appeal before the Government of Sindh. Authorities said they will review all appeals according to legal procedures.
Authorities have finalized plans for uninterrupted power supply during Muharram processions and Majalis. Power companies are working with local authorities and police to prevent outages during Ashura.
Officials are documenting procession routes and Majalis venues to improve monitoring and support arrangements.
As Muharram 2026 approaches, Sindh is strengthening security to protect public safety during religious events.
