The Karachi gold theft case has taken a significant turn after police arrested a domestic worker accused of stealing valuable jewellery from a house in Karachi. Authorities confirmed that around 20 tolas of gold were allegedly stolen from a residential property earlier this month.
According to police officials, the suspect—identified as housemaid Asifa—was taken into custody during an intelligence-based operation. The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged at the Risala Police Station after the homeowner reported the missing gold jewellery on June 12.
Investigators say the accused managed to sell portions of the stolen gold to local jewellers in the Hub area. Police recovered several tolas of gold during the raid, while additional pieces are still being traced. Officials say the suspect used money from selling stolen jewellery to buy property in Moach Goth.
Police added that around six tolas of gold were recovered directly from the suspect’s possession at the time of arrest. Investigators are working to identify others who may have bought or stored the stolen items.
Law enforcement says the case reflects a rising concern in Karachi, where trusted household workers have been linked to similar thefts in recent months. Earlier this year, multiple gold theft cases involving housemaids were reported across the city.
Police have registered a formal case and are continuing efforts to recover the remaining stolen jewellery. Officials said strict legal action will be taken once the investigation is completed.
