The Karachi Airport alert has been issued after weather authorities warned of dust-laden winds and possible rain in the city, prompting emergency preparedness at Pakistan’s busiest aviation hub.
Airport officials placed operations at Jinnah International Airport on high alert following forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The department predicted strong dusty winds along with thunderstorms and intermittent rain in Karachi, raising concerns about flight safety and ground operations.
In response, the Pakistan Airports Authority directed all relevant departments to ensure full operational readiness. Authorities instructed staff to secure aircraft parked on aprons and taxiways to prevent damage from strong winds. Loose equipment and ground materials were also ordered to be properly fastened.
Officials further asked technical teams to inspect electrical systems, cables, and airfield lighting. Follow-me vehicles and emergency response units were instructed to remain fully functional throughout the weather alert period.
Airport management has also increased monitoring of changing weather conditions. Coordination between control towers, ground staff, and safety units has been strengthened to avoid any disruption in flight operations. Authorities emphasized that passenger safety remains the top priority during unstable weather conditions.
Meteorological experts have advised that dusty winds may reduce visibility at times, which could affect takeoffs and landings. Airlines operating at Karachi Airport have been advised to stay updated with weather advisories and adjust schedules if necessary.
Despite the alert, officials have not announced any major flight suspensions so far. However, passengers have been encouraged to check flight status before traveling to the airport, as delays may occur if weather conditions worsen.
The situation remains under close observation as teams continue to assess wind patterns and rainfall intensity. Further updates are expected if weather conditions shift significantly in the coming hours.
