The Apna Ghar Program has received fresh policy directions as the government moves to make housing finance more accessible for citizens across Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to simplify the application process and introduce new facilitation measures for applicants seeking home loans under the scheme.
The latest decisions were taken during a high-level review meeting in Islamabad, where officials briefed the prime minister on the current progress of the program and its growing public response.
According to officials, the Apna Ghar Program has already attracted tens of thousands of applicants since its launch. So far, around 67,900 applications have been received, while 16,587 have been approved. More than 3,100 applicants have already received housing loans worth approximately Rs. 11 billion.
Government Push to Simplify Application Process
One of the key updates in the program is the simplification of the application form. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed relevant departments to redesign the form in simple language so that more citizens can easily apply without facing technical difficulties.
Authorities have also been asked to improve coordination with the State Bank of Pakistan to ensure faster processing of housing loan applications. The aim is to reduce delays and make the approval system more efficient for eligible applicants.
Officials say the revised process will help remove unnecessary paperwork and make the system more user-friendly, especially for first-time applicants.
Faster Loan Approvals and Banking Coordination
The government has also instructed banks to speed up the approval process for qualified applicants. This step is expected to reduce waiting time and improve access to affordable housing finance.
During the meeting, the prime minister emphasized that rising participation in the program reflects public trust. He said that if progress continues at the same pace, homeownership opportunities could expand significantly across the country.
The construction sector is also expected to benefit from increased demand, which may create new economic activity and job opportunities in related industries.
District-Level Support and Awareness Campaigns
To further improve implementation, provincial governments have been directed to establish district-level facilitation desks. These desks will assist applicants with document verification, particularly land records, which often delay loan approvals.
In addition, a nationwide awareness campaign has been proposed to educate citizens about the Apna Ghar Program, its eligibility criteria, and the application process. Officials believe that better awareness will help increase participation from rural and urban areas alike.
Focus on Accessible Housing Finance
The Apna Ghar initiative aims to address Pakistan’s housing shortage through affordable financing. By easing access to home loans, the program aims to support low and middle-income families in achieving homeownership.
Officials highlighted that continuous improvements in the system will help strengthen transparency and efficiency in housing finance delivery.
As reforms progress, more citizens will benefit as banks and government departments improve coordination.
