Hafiz Naeem Announces Islamabad Protest Over Petrol Prices

The Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman protest announcement has intensified the political debate over rising fuel prices and inflation in Pakistan. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief confirmed that his party will hold a major protest in Islamabad on May 15 against the recent increase in petrol prices and the growing economic burden on citizens.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Hafiz Naeem criticized the government’s economic policies and blamed rising fuel costs for worsening inflation across the country. He said ordinary people were already struggling with expensive electricity, gas, and food prices.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader announced that his party would launch a nationwide movement against inflation after Eid al-Adha. He also warned that the party could consider a countrywide strike and wheel-jam protest if authorities failed to provide relief.

The latest petrol price increase has triggered public concern in many cities. The federal government recently raised petrol prices by Rs14.92 per litre, taking the new rate above Rs414 per litre. High-speed diesel prices also increased by Rs 15 per litre.

Hafiz Naeem questioned why neighboring countries had not witnessed similar fuel price jumps. He argued that a large portion of the petrol price included taxes and petroleum levies imposed by the government.

He also criticized fixed charges on electricity and gas bills. According to him, consumers continue to face financial pressure despite repeated promises of economic reforms.

The announcement comes at a time when inflation remains a major issue for households and businesses in Pakistan. Economists warn that continuous fuel price hikes could further increase transport fares, food prices, and utility costs in the coming weeks.

Political analysts believe the planned Islamabad protest could attract significant public attention, especially as fuel and electricity costs continue to rise nationwide.
