The paperless driving license system has officially been launched in Islamabad, marking a major shift toward digital public services in Pakistan. The new system aims to simplify the licensing process, reduce paperwork, and save citizens valuable time.
The Islamabad Traffic Police introduced the initiative in Islamabad as part of broader efforts to modernize government services. Under this system, applicants will not need physical documents, photocopies, or photos for a driving license.
Officials say they have fully digitized the entire process, from medical verification to final license issuance. Citizens only need to bring their computerized national identity card (CNIC) to complete the procedure.
Fully Digital Process Introduced
Senior traffic officials said the new system aims to reduce long queues and delays at licensing centers. Authorities have set up digital counters to handle applications more efficiently and process data directly through connected systems.
Inspector General of Islamabad Traffic Police stated that the goal is to improve convenience and eliminate outdated manual steps. He said the system will soon add digital payments for licensing fees and become fully cashless and paperless.
Authorities say the upgrade will improve services and reduce errors and document misuse.
The paperless driving license system marks a major milestone in Pakistan’s digital governance journey. Officials hope to expand the model to other cities across the country.
With this development, Islamabad moves closer to becoming a fully smart administrative city, offering faster, more transparent, and citizen-friendly services.
