The Outlook Lite shutdown is now officially on the horizon as Microsoft prepares to discontinue its lightweight email app on May 25. The move will affect users worldwide, including those in Pakistan who rely on the app for basic email access on low-end Android devices.
Microsoft has confirmed that Outlook Lite will stop functioning after the deadline, ending access to core features such as email reading, sending, and mailbox navigation. The company is moving users to the main Outlook Mobile app to unify email services.
Outlook Lite was originally designed for users with older or budget smartphones, especially in regions with slower internet speeds. It offered a lightweight experience with reduced data usage and faster loading times. However, Microsoft has now decided to retire the app completely in favor of a more secure and feature-rich platform.
According to Microsoft, all user data, including emails, calendars, and attachments, will remain safe. Users will still be able to access their accounts by logging into the standard Outlook Mobile app after the shutdown. The company has also added in-app prompts that guide users to download the updated version directly from the Play Store.
The decision is expected to impact users who depend on older devices, particularly in developing markets. Microsoft has already blocked new installations of Outlook Lite, signaling a gradual phase-out before the final cutoff date.
Experts suggest users should switch early to avoid disruptions. Delaying migration may lead to temporary loss of access once the Outlook Lite shutdown is enforced.
For many users, this change reflects Microsoft’s ongoing effort to streamline its services and strengthen security across its ecosystem.
