Pakistani Freelancers Earn $1.6B in 11 Months FY26 Surge

Pakistan freelance earnings have reached a major milestone as freelancers generated $1.6 billion in export revenue during the first 11 months of FY26. The strong performance highlights the rapid expansion of the country’s digital services sector and its growing role in global online markets.

According to official remarks shared by Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad, freelance exports recorded an estimated 80% year-on-year increase. The growth shows rising global demand for Pakistani talent in areas such as IT services, creative work, and digital marketing.

The development places Pakistan among emerging digital economies where online work is becoming a key source of foreign exchange inflows. Industry observers say the trend reflects improved internet access, better freelancing skills, and increased platform-based opportunities.

Strong monthly performance adds momentum

In May 2026 alone, freelancers in Pakistan reportedly earned around $169 million. This marked an 87% increase compared to the same month last year.

Officials say this sharp rise signals stronger integration of Pakistani freelancers into global demand cycles. More professionals are now working with clients across North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Freelancers are also expanding beyond traditional IT services. Many are now involved in animation, UI/UX design, content production, and data-related work.

Growing impact on the digital economy

Experts believe the surge in Pakistan freelance earnings is helping stabilize foreign exchange inflows at a time of economic pressure. The sector is increasingly seen as a low-barrier entry point for young professionals seeking international income.

Digital platforms such as Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer continue to play a key role in connecting Pakistani workers with global clients. Training programs and improved digital literacy are also supporting this growth.

Analysts suggest that if the current trend continues, Pakistan’s freelance exports could cross new records in the coming fiscal periods.

The government has also emphasized the importance of the IT and freelancing sector in long-term economic planning. With rising participation, Pakistan’s digital workforce is expected to become a stronger contributor to exports.
