The Chakwal Firing Case has taken a significant turn after authorities arrested a Crime Control Department (CCD) officer involved in a shooting that left a nine-year-old girl dead and injured two members of her family.
The incident occurred in Chakwal when CCD personnel responded to reports of a robbery. According to officials, suspected robbers allegedly used a civilian vehicle as cover during an attempt to evade law enforcement. During the operation, a CCD officer opened fire, hitting a family traveling in the vehicle.
The shooting claimed the life of nine-year-old Hania, while her father, Adeel Ahmed, and brother, Afan, suffered injuries. The family had reportedly recently returned to Pakistan after living abroad and had completed Hajj before the tragic incident.
During a visit to Chakwal, CCD Chief Sohail Chatha described the incident as a “serious and painful mistake.” He confirmed that the officer who opened fire has been arrested and a criminal case has been registered against him.
Chatha stated that authorities had added Section 302, which relates to murder charges, to the case. He also assured the public that the department would not shield any official found responsible for wrongdoing.
The CCD chief said department representatives had met with the affected family and pledged full cooperation during the investigation. He emphasizes that the inquiry proceeds strictly on merit and ensures accountability.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and renewed debate about operational procedures followed during police and law enforcement actions. Many citizens have called for greater safeguards to prevent innocent civilians from becoming victims during security operations.
Authorities say the suspects they are pursuing are linked to robbery activities and have connections to Sheikhupura. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
Chatha expresses regret over the tragedy and says one officer’s actions do not define the entire department. He highlighted CCD’s ongoing efforts against criminal networks across Punjab but acknowledged the need for a review of operational protocols.
The Chakwal incident has drawn attention across Pakistan, with many demanding transparency and justice for the affected family. The investigation’s outcome determines accountability and restores public confidence in law enforcement.
Officials have pledged measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents as the investigation continues.
