Punjab Wildlife Department Seizes 59 Big Cats from Private Farms after discovering multiple SOP violations and illegal exotic animal keeping across Punjab. The operation, led by the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department, targeted private wildlife breeding farms in Lahore division, Jhelum, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Faisalabad. Authorities retrieved lions, tigers, ligers, and even a monkey, rescuing them from unsafe captivity conditions.
In the Lahore division, 20 lions were seized from a breeding farm, and Fayaz alias Faizi and three others were arrested for not meeting the minimum lion pair space requirements. Authorities confiscated 23 big cats in Jhelum, including 14 tigers, four lions, and five ligers, arresting Muhammad Aamir. Authorities sealed a Multan wildlife farm after finding nine lions and a monkey and filed an FIR against Waqas Ayub.
The department also acted in Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Faisalabad, seizing lions kept illegally and ensuring arrests for wildlife violations. Additional Chief Wildlife Ranger Mudassar Hassan emphasized that wildlife department notices had been issued before these operations. The rescued animals will receive proper care, and authorities are reviewing long-term plans for their safety. These measures highlight Punjab’s commitment to wildlife conservation in Pakistan and stricter enforcement of animal captivity regulations.
Authorities are cracking down on private exotic animal farms in Pakistan when housing SOPs endanger humans and wildlife. Public awareness and law enforcement play key roles in preventing illegal exotic animal keeping. The Punjab Wildlife Department’s proactive approach sets a precedent for future private farm inspections and protects Punjab’s animal welfare.
