Punjab Unveils Ambitious Urban Development Plan for 51 Cities, aiming to improve city infrastructure and civic facilities across the province. The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, announced this flagship program to upgrade urban areas, enhance sanitation, and ensure timely project execution. With projects focused on sewerage system construction and drainage channels development, residents can expect better living conditions in all participating cities.
The plan includes constructing 5,887 kilometers of sewerage lines and 181 drainage channels, along with the installation of more than 33,000 manhole covers. HDPE sewerage pipes are being produced to ensure durability and efficiency. In Multan, the project covers 232 kilometers of sewerage lines, pumping stations, generators, and road expansion projects. Gujranwala will receive its largest-ever development package, including a wastewater treatment plant and advanced machinery. Dera Ghazi Khan is set for Rs12 billion worth of sewerage and drainage upgrades, while Bhakkar, Vehari, and Sheikhupura will see significant civic facility improvements, including parks and recreation development.
To monitor progress, the Punjab Development Plan includes provincial control rooms and district-level monitoring for real-time supervision. This system also strengthens public complaint resolution to address issues quickly and transparently. The team will complete the first project phase by June, ensuring transparency in development and efficient urban planning across Punjab. Deputy commissioners update the Chief Minister, making this one of Punjab’s most ambitious urban upgrades.
In conclusion, Punjab launches a 51-city urban plan to improve infrastructure, sanitation, and urban life. This integrated approach guarantees improved civic facilities, road expansion, and sustainable urban growth across the province.
