Punjab Introduces Paperless Hospitals to Transform Healthcare, marking a major step in public healthcare modernization. Hospitals across Punjab now operate with digital patient records and paperless operations, improving hospital administration efficiency and patient care. This transformation is part of broader digital health reforms in Punjab led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
District and tehsil headquarters hospitals have already implemented hospital digitalization, and health facilitation services are now fully digital. Emergency ward technology, including Safe City surveillance integration, ensures patient safety while monitoring staff efficiency. Hospital CEOs and Medical Superintendents (MSs) use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in healthcare and Performance Evaluation Reports (PER) for doctors to maintain high standards.
The government has increased the healthcare budget from Rs. 399 billion to Rs. 630 billion and inducted 1,500 doctors to improve medical services. Essential medicine supply and medical equipment availability are strictly monitored. Vigilance teams in healthcare oversee hospital cleanliness and hygiene, while color-coded triage bays streamline patient flow. These measures reduce corruption in hospitals and improve access for poor and vulnerable citizens.
Notable achievements include over 10,000 heart surgeries completed under the Chief Minister’s Children Heart Surgery Programme at the Children’s Hospital Lahore. Intensive care unit expansion and additional cardiac surgery program beneficiaries reflect the success of hospital digitalization. Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants implement these reforms effectively across Punjab’s public hospitals.
