Over 1,100 Fire Hydrants to Strengthen Fire Safety in Punjab

Over 1,100 Fire Hydrants to Strengthen Fire Safety in Punjab have been approved by the Punjab government to protect markets, plazas, and business centers. This move comes after past incidents, including the Gul Plaza fire in Karachi, highlighting the need for better fire preparedness. The initiative will improve markets and plazas and modernize emergency response across the province.

The Punjab government has set an operational timeline by March 1 to install 1,142 fire hydrants, all geotagged for easy access. Rescue 1122 will manage installation and maintenance, ensuring all locations meet SOP compliance. The initiative also includes upgrading the firefighting sector with drones, modern equipment, and advanced technology to respond faster to emergencies.

A new building grading system classifies safe buildings as A-grade, while authorities ensure all commercial areas, schools, and hospitals display clear entry and exit points. The Pera Force monitoring team will oversee implementation, helping stakeholders meet legal building safety requirements and protect visitors and businesses. This plan strengthens commercial market safety measures and reduces potential losses, with Rs. 750 billion in prevented losses reported in past fire incidents thanks to quick response efforts.

The project also includes deploying modern ambulances and air ambulances, ensuring rapid care for affected individuals. Authorities have emphasized training personnel for rescue services modernization, including airlifting patients safely during emergencies.

Overall, the installation of over 1,100 fire hydrants in Punjab represents a proactive step toward safer commercial zones. It combines technology, planning, and strict compliance to protect lives, property, and public confidence. The initiative sets a benchmark for other provinces aiming to improve urban fire safety.
