OGDCL Makes Major Oil and Gas Discovery in KP’s Nashpa Block, marking a significant boost to Pakistan’s domestic energy resource base. The discovery at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well highlights the hydrocarbon potential of the Nashpa Block, Kohat, and reinforces the company’s ongoing OGDCL exploration strategy. This find also strengthens Pakistan’s energy security by reducing reliance on imports and supporting local oil and gas production.
The Baragzai X-01 well was drilled to a depth of 5,170 metres into the Kingriali and Datta formations. During the Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-03), the well produced 3,100 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 8.15 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas. The wellhead flowing pressure reached 3,010 psig, confirming strong output potential from the Samana Suk and Shinawari formations.
OGDCL holds a 65 percent working interest in the Nashpa Exploration License, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) holds 30 percent, and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds 5 percent. The collaboration of these joint venture partners demonstrates the commitment to expanding indigenous energy resources and mitigating Pakistan’s energy supply-demand gap.
Experts say this major oil and gas discovery will help stabilize the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa energy sector and contribute significantly to Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves. It also encourages further energy sector investment in Pakistan and highlights the importance of domestic exploration initiatives.
In conclusion, OGDCL’s latest Nashpa Block find showcases the country’s growing oil and gas potential. This discovery not only boosts domestic production but also reinforces long-term energy sustainability. With continued exploration, Pakistan can strengthen its energy independence and meet rising domestic demand efficiently.
