NCERT Launches Cybersecurity Audit of 300 Govt Websites

NCERT Launches Cybersecurity Audit of 300 Govt Websites to prevent cyberattacks and protect sensitive data. The National CERT has started a nationwide security assessment to identify server weaknesses and improve public sector IT security. This audit includes ministries, attached departments, and other public institutions to ensure stronger protection for online platforms.

Officials report that about 280 websites have completed vulnerability scanning, while 20 remain under review. The assessment focuses on web application security, unauthorized access protection, and identifying critical, high, medium, and low-level vulnerabilities. Weak passwords, outdated IT systems, and improperly secured databases are some issues detected during the early phases.

The audit aims to enhance cybersecurity controls across all government websites. Authorities have directed departments to update software systems, implement web application firewalls (WAF), and strengthen backup systems. Monitoring systems have been improved to detect hacking attempts quickly and mitigate potential data breaches.

This digital security for ministries also covers sensitive data protection, ensuring that citizens’ personal and official information remains safe. Temporary website shutdowns or upgrades may occur to implement stronger security measures. Cyberattack mitigation and online platform security are top priorities during this extensive audit.

By performing this cybersecurity audit Pakistan-wide, NCERT demonstrates its commitment to safeguarding government digital infrastructure. The initiative not only addresses current vulnerabilities but also prevents future hacking attempts. National CERT assessments like this are critical for maintaining trust in online government services.
