National Athletics Championships in Islamabad Put on Hold Due to Track Concerns, as organizers face delays with the Jinnah Sports Complex athletics track. The Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) confirmed that the track has not received full certification, so the 53rd National Athletics Championships cannot proceed as planned. Athletes and squads prepared for late-December dates now must adjust their schedules.
The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is responsible for providing a certified athletics track. However, contractor responsibility and surface certification issues have delayed the handover. AFP Secretary General Lt Col Shahjehan Mir (Retd) issued an official notification stating that the track still awaits approval from World Athletics. Because of this, hosting a national championship at the venue remains impossible until the track meets all international standards.
The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) has directed full cooperation to ensure a suitable athletics venue for the mega event. The postponement of sports events affects athlete training and preparation, so revised dates and venue details will be shared once certification issues are resolved. Sports administration in Pakistan is actively working with PSB and other authorities to prevent further delays.
Athletes, coaches, and affiliated departments now face adjustments to their training programs. The Jinnah Sports Complex has hosted many championships, but inspections are needed to meet World Athletics standards. Athletics event rescheduling is expected soon, ensuring the competition proceeds safely and fairly.
All stakeholders remain committed to organizing a successful 53rd National Athletics Championships once the issues are resolved.
