KP Govt Limits Market and Restaurant Timings to Conserve Power

KP Govt Limits Market and Restaurant Timings to Conserve Power, aiming to reduce electricity consumption and promote energy efficiency in business. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced new rules for markets, commercial plazas, restaurants, cafes, and wedding halls. These measures are part of a broader effort to improve KP’s electricity conservation and reduce load-shedding.

Under the new directives, markets and commercial plazas in divisional headquarters must close by 9:00 PM. In other districts, shops will shut by 8:00 PM. Restaurants, cafes, and wedding halls are required to conclude events by 10:00 PM. Home delivery and takeaway services can continue beyond these hours. Private offices, banks, academies, fitness centres, and jewellery shops must also follow the updated commercial plaza timings.

Industrial, manufacturing, and export units are exempted, but retail outlets linked to industries must adhere to the restrictions. The government has instructed that decorative lighting, including façade and ornamental lights, remain switched off to reduce electricity usage. Administrative secretaries and commissioners have been directed to ensure strict implementation, while deputy commissioners monitor markets at the district level.

These energy-saving measures aim to reduce unnecessary consumption and encourage efficient energy use in commercial activities. The government estimates that such steps can lower evening electricity demand by 15–20% in urban areas. Similar rules have been announced by the Balochistan government, with Quetta market timings set at 8:00 PM and restaurants closing by 10:00 PM. Essential services such as medical stores, tandoors, and naan shops are exempted.

By limiting business hours, the KP government seeks to conserve electricity without disrupting essential services. Citizens and business owners are encouraged to follow the rules and adopt energy-efficient practices. These measures will help the province manage electricity supply better while promoting sustainable business operations.
