Karachi launches special teams to address polio drop refusals in upcoming campaign, aiming to vaccinate children missed in previous drives. These teams will focus on parents and children refusing polio drops, ensuring wider coverage across high-risk areas. The initiative forms part of the city’s larger Polio vaccination campaign in Karachi and strengthens ongoing polio eradication efforts.
Commissioner Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting with all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Assistant Commissioners (ACs) to plan the operation. During the discussion, officials emphasized proper coordination with local health units and Town and Union Council officials. The campaign will run from December 15 to December 21, targeting 2.1 million children across Karachi.
Approximately 2.6 lakh polio workers in Karachi will participate in the drive. Special teams for vaccination will visit homes where parents previously refused polio drop administration. The strategy includes awareness sessions to address concerns and encourage vaccination. Children missed in past campaigns will be prioritized to improve overall vaccination coverage in Karachi.
Deputy Commissioners Karachi will supervise the teams and ensure smooth execution. The plan combines government health initiatives with community engagement, making it a comprehensive public health campaign in Pakistan. By focusing on missed children’s vaccinations and anti-polio awareness, officials aim to minimize refusal rates.
This proactive approach highlights the city’s commitment to ending polio. Strong monitoring, effective communication, and cooperation with local authorities will help achieve higher immunization rates. Karachi’s special teams formation sets an example for other regions, proving that coordinated efforts can improve child health outcomes.
