Japan Provides $18.62 Million Grant to Boost Child Healthcare in South Punjab, aiming to strengthen pediatric healthcare services in the region. The JPY 2.91 billion grant, approved through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will support the Children’s Hospital and the Institute of Child Health (ICH), Multan. This initiative focuses on improving child health care in South Punjab and expanding medical facilities for high-risk neonates and infants.
The grant agreement signing included an Exchange of Notes and Record of Discussion between Pakistan and Japan. Muhammad Humair Karim, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Japanese Ambassador AKAMATSU Shuichi highlighted bilateral cooperation between Japan and Pakistan. They emphasized government support and facilitation to ensure the timely implementation of health projects.
The project will enhance diagnostic and treatment systems at the region’s only tertiary care hospital for children. Medical equipment for children, specialized pediatric treatment, and expanded healthcare infrastructure will improve pediatric healthcare quality. This expansion of medical facilities will provide critical support for serious illnesses and injuries in children across South Punjab.
In addition, the Grant-in-Aid program will enable the training of healthcare staff and strengthen emergency pediatric care. Hospitals will benefit from upgraded technology and improved care processes. By focusing on quality improvement in child health, the project sets a strong foundation for long-term healthcare development in southern Pakistan.
Japan’s $18.62 million grant will improve child healthcare in South Punjab. This collaboration highlights international support for child health care and fosters stronger ties between the two countries.
